Hydrodynamic Engineer: mooring experience

Job Dimension

This Position:

Reports to: Hydro and Subsea Manager
Supervision of: n/a
Liaises internally with: Other Engineering departments, Procurement Dept., Operations Dept.
Offshore Contracting Group for installation activities.
Liaises externally with: Consultants, Engineering subcontractors, Suppliers and Clients.

Define hydrodynamic loads acting on floating systems and derive their effects. Analyze size and
specify the anchoring system components in a way that ensures the safe, timely, efficient and
profitable delivery of high quality engineering that meets the Company's requirements.

+ Perform conceptual design of anchoring system configurations.
+ Assess hydrostatic stability of shallow and deep water CALM systems.
+ Assess global dynamic response (including motions in waves) of floating systems including (but not limited to) shallow water and Deepwater CALM buoys, FPSO's & FSO's.
+ Perform simple supporting calculations to demonstrate the adequacy of engineering solutions.
+ Collect, analyze and interpret project data, including (but not limited to) oceanographic and met ocean data.
+ Prepare met ocean study specifications and follow up their execution by the selected Consultants.
+ Specify model test campaigns, follow up their execution, interpret their results and tune numerical tools against these.
+ Perform advanced numerical analysis using specialized software packages in use within the
Company and report the results obtained in a comprehensive manner.
+ Specify hydrodynamic numerical analyses subcontracted to external Consultants and follow up their execution.
+ Prepare design load reports and anchor leg length calculation reports.
+ Prepare heading analysis and motion analysis reports.
+ Prepare technical specifications of anchoring system components (chain, steel wire ropes, synthetic wire ropes, anchor leg accessories).
+ Execute availability analyses of mooring systems and offshore terminals including (but not limited to import and export oil terminals, FSRU's, dis-connectable anchoring systems.
+ Follow all relevant Group Technical Standards, Procedures and Work Instructions.
+ Identify and write Technical Notes for the routine aspects of the work.
+ Follow all applicable and relevant legislations, standards and codes and ensure awareness of their latest revision.
+ Act as Discipline Lead during project execution or as Engineering Project Manager for Engineering
Studies when required.
+ Check, review internal drawings, specifications and calculation notes.
+ Assist in the technical evaluation of bids and technical proposal submitted by contractors and

suppliers of anchoring system components.
+ Visit supplier's workshops, shipyards and offshore installations to assess and report on fabrication, installation and in-service conditions of Anchoring systems.

+ Answer queries arising from clients, contractors or internal Company departments on Anchoring aspects of Company systems.
+ Prepare formal responses to detailed comments from Clients and Classification Societies on
drawings, specifications and calculation notes.
+ Attend and contribute to internal Company/department/project meetings when required.
+ Investigate and report on failures or underperformance on Company products.
+ Work closely with P&TD Department and represent the Company in JIP's and technical panels of normative organizations.
+ Attend training courses, seminars etc. when required.
+ Contribute to the writing of technical papers and present these at suitable conferences.

Education: University degree in a relevant discipline (Hydrodynamics, Structure, Mechanics, Materials).
Experience: 5 years' experience in the offshore industry, including at least 3 years in a relevant sector of activities.
